I picked this book up on a friend’s recommendation, and I wasn’t sure how much I’d like the story as this was my first experience of Amish fiction, but from the prologue of the first book I was totally hooked! I LOVED the characters! Ms. Price bought them and their struggles to life on the page, and she wasn’t afraid to give her characters difficult problems. I was on the edge of my seat wondering how Judith would be able to have her love without giving up her dream of studying medicine, and I also really felt for Miriam her secret (which I won’t get into here because it would give too much away!) Each of the books in Amish Connections was a complete story, and I’d have been happy with any one of them, but I was happier that I bought the collection not only because it was cheaper but because the parts really did tie together well. I hope Ms. Price comes back to these characters in other books, especially Andrew and Rachel, because I really want to know what happens with them.

This is the first kind of these book, Amish fiction, that I have ever read. But it sounded interesting so I got it. Glad I did. It was a good story and I couldn’t help but keep thinking how much this story reminded me of some of the shows I had seen on the Hallmark Channel 😉 Nice job, great story. A good first experience for me with Amish fiction.

I know, I know, Amish fiction? Yes, really. There’s something about the innocence and faith of it all that reassures me. It feels like a snuggly blanket on a cold night, you know?

Anyway, onto my review. I read the free installment of this novel and had to go ahead and buy the whole thing. I reading the first three parts of the author’s OUT OF DARKNESS series a few months back, so when I found out she had written a book about Samuel from the first series, I knew I at least had to check it out. It’s a little different from the traditional Amish novel, but as far as I’m concerned, the risk the author takes works. The novella format is actually pretty satisfying, and I liked how while each story stood on its own, they all worked well together as an overarching narrative of faith and redemption.

If I had to pick a favorite part, I’d say the road trip with Miriam and Samuel, mostly because I’ve never really seen anything like that in Amish fiction. And who doesn’t…
