Great Read — Really Unique Idea and Well Written!

I really enjoyed this book! What I really loved was how Jemima connected with the letter more than the money. This was such an interesting idea (I really don’t want to give it away, but I’ve never seen this in an Amish book before) showing how wealth can make things complicated and people lose their minds a little. Like all of Ruth’s books, this was very well written, strongly grounded in faith while at the same time not your typical Amish story. Also, as someone else pointed out, the whole story isn’t resolved at the end of the book. That said, after I finished, I really want to know what happens next with Jemima and her many Amish suitors, the letter, and Brad (who I guess is a suitor too but I’m not sure how suitable he is…) Ruth is a great writer and I’m really excited to read Book 2! I just hope she doesn’t take too long with the rest of the series or I might get mad!

Jemima has her hands full

135 pages but not long enough! Jemima is trying her best to be good but for some reason the English man Brad seems to have gotten under her skin! Even though she has three suitors it would seem it is Brad who makes her heart quicken! It seems an innocent gift for her sister has become more trouble than it was worth for Jemima. Absolutely love her father and her mother seems to have things well in hand which she needs with little sister being such a … brat.

A Fun Read

This light-hearted story has good characterization and authentic Amish background without a heavy hand in the preaching. The character’s faith is as natural to her as breathing, and as life-sustaining, but it doesn’t make her any more solemn and pale than any teenager should be… especially while deciding between so many possible beaus.

Great book on how a widowed Amish women attempts to move on with her life as well as her child’s life. She has several suitors who are interested in courting her, in addition to, finding a letter written by George Washington to his wife Martha that is valued at one million dollars. She is challenged with who to pick for courting. Also, she has no interest in redeeming the letter for what it is worth and gives it to a reporter who is also interested in her. The book ends and leaves you guessing on what happens when the reporter gives the letter back to her and tells her what it is worth. It makes you want to purchase the next book in the series to find out what happens next.
