Hearts Adrift brought back fond memories of the Amish people I once had the privilege to know. The story and characters and the whole feeling you get while reading this wonderful story is authentically Amish.

This book may bring a tear to your eye at times, so if you are the kind of person who is embarrassed when you become glassy eyed with emotion, than read this book when no one is watching.

The characters come to life and we feel the soul searching and inner turmoil of one of the main characters as she is torn in two directions. Although Mary wants desperately to live in harmony with traditional Amish culture, she lives with a deep hunger for something more. She feels trapped in her life in the Amish community of Elkhart County. She likes the man who she is supposed to marry. Abram is a good man; a Christian man. And yet there is emptiness in her heart where happiness should live.

Mary needs to do something desperate. She needs to break free…

and kept me turning the pages right from the beginning. The story just sort of caught me and compelled me to keep turning.

I have read several books about the Amish recently and this was, by far, the best.

I hope there are more to come from this author as I will surely get them.

In this short introduction to the Amish community, there are three main characters that are begin to develop. Mary, who was married to Abram has decided to leave the community and Abram. Abram is left heartbroken and then recues a little boy, Owen. Abram wants nothing to do with him and the little boy doesn’t like him. This introduction certainly makes you want to continue reading to see what happens and to see the characters develop. Does Abram become attached to Owen? Does Mary stay away? I guess you’ll have to read the next book to find out.
